A necrotic, odorous wound is a particularly severe degree of skin damage. If not handled properly, the necrotic area will spread deeply and widely, seriously threatening the patient's health. Here are some ways to help you treat necrotic wounds effectively.

1. What is a necrotic wound?

Wound necrosis is a phenomenon in which the tissue cells in the wound die and gradually spread if not treated. Any wound is at risk of necrosis. Especially wounds caused by organ surgery, open wounds on hands and feet...

Classification of necrotic wounds mainly includes 2 types:

  • In case of dry necrosis: there is no fluid, brown or black color and may peel off the necrotic skin.
  • In case of wet necrosis: ulcers, consisting of dead tissue and yellow or red-brown fluid.

2. Causes of wound necrosis

Wound necrosis is caused by many factors. The two most common causes are as follows:

- Due to infected wound: due to staphylococcus, streptococcus attack. From there, bacterial toxins cause ulcers and tissue necrosis at the site of injury.
- Because the wound dressing is too tight, the amount of blood to the wound is not enough to nourish the tissue. This causes the wound to dry up and the tissue to die.

3. Steps to treat necrotic, smelly wounds

Step 1. Cut out the necrotic wound

This is an important principle in the treatment of necrotic wounds. The treatment gives good results only when the necrotic part is completely removed. Debridement of a necrotic wound with an odor should be performed by a qualified person to ensure that the necrotic part is removed cleanly and to reduce the spread of necrosis to the surrounding tissue.

Step 2. Clean the wound: Irrigate the wound with 0.9% physiological saline or an isotonic saline solution.

Step 3. Monitor progress, combine with Multidex

Necrotic wounds should be monitored daily and the necrotic part removed until no more necrosis or ulcers appear. If the patient has a high fever continuously for 48 hours, home treatment options are not improving, the wound is getting worse, or there are any unusual symptoms, the patient should be taken to a medical center immediately.

Multidex is an effective product in ulcer care due to its many uses such as:

  • Forms gel film rapidly on exudative ulcers and adheres to tissue to prevent dehydration.
  • Maintain adequate moisture for granulation tissue growth and epithelial proliferation.
  • Reduces purulent secretion thereby reducing odor.
  • Creates a physical barrier that prevents bacteria and dirt from entering the wound.
